Merz: Switzerland should lower US tariffs – EU wants to take joint action

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz commented on Tuesday in Berlin on the high US tariffs imposed on Switzerland. At a joint press conference with Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter, he said he hoped “that Switzerland will succeed in reducing the exorbitantly high tariffs” imposed by the US government.

Merz explained that the EU had “achieved this to a certain extent, even though the situation is not comfortable for us either.”

“We have similar, aligned interests here. And we are also trying to resolve this together. Of course, I am also pleased to involve Switzerland in this process,” Merz continued.
