New school subject in Poland faces criticism from the Church due to sex education content

Polish schools are introducing a new subject—health education. Children will learn how to deal with stress, recognize misinformation, and understand sexual health.

However, conservatives and the Catholic Church describe this as an ideological attack on the family, writes the Politico portal. They particularly criticize passages on sexuality, which they believe promote gender ideology.

Education Minister Barbara Nowacka counters that open education protects children from abuse. For the time being, the subject is only an elective, which experts describe as a mistake and a political retreat. Some parents welcome it, while others reject it for practical reasons such as teaching time.

By September 25, it should be clear how many parents decide to enroll their children in the subject and whether it will become compulsory over time.
