The US is putting pressure on China over Russian oil, while Beijing speaks of neutrality

During his visit to Slovenia, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that China is not involved in any wars and has no plans to engage in any. He was responding to demands by the US, which is calling on its allies to impose tariffs on countries that buy Russian oil, including China. Wang Yi emphasized that war does not solve problems and that sanctions only exacerbate them.

The United States has already imposed tariffs on India for importing Russian oil, but has not yet taken similar measures against China, which it describes as a “versatile strategic partner.”

Washington is attempting to reduce the financing of Russia's war in Ukraine by putting economic pressure on its trading partners.

However, Beijing has long positioned itself as a neutral player and rejects the policy of sanctions, which it considers counterproductive.
