The World Health Organization (WHO) has added abortion pills to its list of essential medicines for 2025 without prior notice, with their use depending on the legislation and cultural context of each country, reports the Catholic News Agency.

This move has drawn fierce criticism from pro-life organizations, which point to the health risks associated with these drugs. According to gynecologist Ingrid Skop, one in five women may suffer complications, with one in twenty requiring surgical intervention.

Critics warn that the WHO's recommendation is irresponsible, especially for countries with poorer health care systems, and could lead to tragedies.

At the same time, concerns are growing about new laws in California and New York that allow anonymous prescriptions for abortion drugs and protect doctors even if they violate the laws of other states.
