Warsaw selects suppliers for submarines, NATO countries are favorites

Poland is preparing to take a major step forward in defense—by the end of the year, it plans to purchase three submarines as part of the Orka program.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the cabinet will decide on the winner of the tender this week, with bids already having been carefully reviewed.

The aim is to strengthen the capabilities of the Polish navy, to be able to respond better to threats from Russia, and at the same time to move closer to NATO strategically.

According to Polish media, companies from Germany, Italy, and Sweden are among the favorites. The Italian company Fincantieri has already signed a letter of intent with the Polish PGZ, which could be a harbinger of cooperation.

South Korean company Hanwha Ocean has also expressed interest and included a financial package with its bid.
