Polish missile apparently hit house during Russian drone attack, says minister

Polish Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, who is responsible for special services, stated that the object that struck the eastern Polish village of Wyryki-Wola in early September was probably a missile fired by a Polish fighter jet.

The missile was intended to shoot down Russian drones that had violated Polish airspace. Polish authorities initially stated that the house had been hit by one of 21 Russian drones that had entered Polish airspace on the night of September 9-10.

However, the newspaper Rzeczpospolita reported, citing sources from the Ministry of Defense, that it was a missile from a Polish F-16 fighter jet whose guidance system had failed.

Minister Siemoniak emphasized that the missile had been fired in defense of Poland and its citizens. The incident is being investigated. Polish President Karol Nawrocki, a political rival of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, announced that he would demand a more detailed investigation of the incident.
