The EU wants to build a wall against drones within a year, says Kubilius

EU Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius confirmed that the European Union will build a “wall against drones” with advanced detection, tracking, and neutralization capabilities. This was reported by the Euractiv portal.

Kubilius also stated that the Union could significantly improve its drone detection capabilities within a year. However, building a complex network to monitor and eliminate targets on land and at sea will take much longer.

The project is a response to Russia's increasing airspace violations in EU countries, which also include drone attacks on civilian and military targets.

He cited the Ukrainian army, which uses acoustic sensors to detect enemy drones, as a role model. Technological options also include the use of lasers for the efficient and cost-effective elimination of unmanned aerial vehicles.

He emphasized the particular importance of the project, especially for the states on the eastern border and coast of the European Union. The European Investment Bank also plans to support defense infrastructure and improve military mobility within the Union.
