Transgender man should have served 18 months – instead, he went on vacation
Neo-Nazi and transsexual Sven Liebich, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison for incitement to hatred, was supposed to begin serving his sentence at the women's prison in Chemnitz on August 29. Instead, he disappeared – and now there are doubts as to whether his escape was planned well in advance, reports Bild.
According to information from German media, Liebich (who currently goes by the female name “Marla-Svenja”) had already informed the Ministry of Justice of Saxony-Anhalt before the start of his sentence that he would not be appearing, and had submitted a request for a postponement due to a vacation, to which he attached a copy of the booking confirmation.
However, the letter did not reach the public prosecutor's office until several days after the date of imprisonment, which aroused suspicion. Minister of Justice Franziska Weidinger spoke of an “administrative error” but did not comment further, citing the confidentiality of the committee meeting. Whether the letter is genuine – and where the convicted man is currently staying – remains unclear.
