FBI in Trump's sights. Hundreds of agents fired for participating in protests

On Friday, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) dismissed dozens of agents who had participated in protests by the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement in the summer of 2020.

This was reported by sources from President Donald Trump's administration to the Reuters news agency.

The agency, which is headed by Trump loyalist Kash Patel, used photos showing the agents kneeling alongside protesters as evidence, allegedly with the aim of de-escalating tensions.

The FBI Agents Association condemned the dismissals “in the strongest terms.” It is still unclear how many officers have lost their jobs.

The right-wing website Blaze reported, citing sources from the House Judiciary Committee, that 274 plainclothes agents were involved in the protests outside the Capitol on January 6, 2021, when Congress confirmed Joe Biden as the election winner.

The Inspector General of the Department of Justice had stated in December 2024 that there were no undercover agents among the ten thousand MAGA protesters. However, the agency has now acknowledged that plainclothes officers were present, pointing out the difference between the terms “undercover” and “plainclothes.”
