Trump orders deployment of soldiers in the city of Portland

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of soldiers to Portland, Oregon, to protect immigration and customs facilities. He made the decision at the request of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and instructed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to provide all necessary troops.

Trump also authorized the use of “full force,” without elaborating on what he meant by that. This is another step in his controversial strategy of sending soldiers to US cities—a measure he justifies with the fight against the Antifa movement and “domestic terrorists.”

ICE facilities in Portland have been the target of repeated demonstrations, some of which have turned violent and resulted in injuries to federal officials.

The situation escalated further after a symbolic guillotine was erected in front of the agency's building. Trump had previously described life in the city as “living in hell” and threatened to take similar steps in cities such as Chicago and Baltimore.
