Israeli army: 900,000 people have already left Gaza
Approximately 900,000 Palestinians out of a population of around one million have left Gaza City, reports the Times of Israel. Last month, residents were ordered to evacuate all neighborhoods and move to the humanitarian zone reserved by Israel in the south of the Gaza Strip.
The pace at which civilians have been leaving the city in recent weeks has increased with the advance of the Israeli army in Gaza. Despite the figures released by the Israeli military, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated on October 2 that hundreds of thousands of people remain in Gaza City and the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
Israeli aircraft and tanks fired on areas in the Gaza Strip on Saturday night, destroying several residential buildings according to eyewitness accounts. Health authorities reported at least one death and several injuries in Gaza City, as well as other casualties in other parts of the Gaza Strip, according to the Reuters news agency.
