The United Kingdom tightens language requirements for immigrants and their families
The British government is tightening language requirements for migrants. The new rules require visa applicants using selected legal routes to have a beginner's level of English (A1) in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
The tests will be conducted by approved providers, and the results will be a prerequisite for obtaining a visa, reports GB News.
At the same time, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will introduce a requirement to have at least B2 level proficiency for those who wish to settle or acquire citizenship.
At the same time, adult family members of workers and students must also demonstrate at least basic knowledge (A1).
The government also announced the introduction of a visa requirement for citizens of Botswana – due to the increasing number of cases in which they entered as tourists and subsequently applied for asylum. This step is intended to prevent abuse of the immigration system.
