At the end of October 2025, he published a letter ahead of the UN COP30 conference in which he distanced himself from catastrophic predictions and called for a more pragmatic approach.

A few years ago, he was still warning of terrible scenarios, but now he is claiming something completely different: climate change will not spell the end of our civilization.

Today, he suggests that countries should focus on promoting health, education, economic growth, and technological innovation, which can improve quality of life and resilience to the effects of climate change.

“Health and prosperity are the best protection against climate change,” Gates said, adding that economic development can significantly reduce the number of deaths related to extreme weather events.
