Their resignations followed the outbreak of a major corruption scandal affecting the nuclear sector, one of the biggest political crises since the start of the war.

The investigation centres on an alleged $100 million fraud involving the manipulation of state contracts at the nuclear agency. The case has sparked widespread outrage among the public, with pressure mounting on President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Both ministers deny the accusations, but resigned after the president's call. The opposition, however, is calling for a deeper reconstruction of the government and the dismissal of Zelensky's chief of staff.

Anti-corruption authorities have said the investigation is not only into the energy sector, but also other state bodies. The main suspect is a former business partner of the president.
