Netanyahu and Trump Agree Iran Deal Must Strip Uranium
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that he and US President Donald Trump agreed that any final deal with Iran must eliminate the nuclear threat posed by Tehran. Writing on Telegram, Netanyahu said this would require dismantling Iran's uranium enrichment facilities and removing enriched nuclear material from Iranian territory.
These demands are difficult to reconcile with Iran's position, which holds that it has the right to enrich uranium for civilian purposes.
A senior Iranian source told Reuters that Tehran had not agreed to hand over its stockpile of highly enriched uranium in the ongoing negotiations and that the nuclear issue was not part of the preliminary agreement with the United States.
"The nuclear issue will be addressed in negotiations for a final agreement and are therefore not part of the current deal. There has been no agreement over Iran's highly enriched uranium stockpile to be shipped out of the country", the source said.
