Trump: US Pilots Safe After Apache Crash Near Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump said two US pilots were safe after an Apache attack helicopter crashed near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday. The New York Times first reported that the crew had been rescued after the aircraft went down in unclear circumstances.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. Trump said nobody was injured and that more information would be made public in a report.

The incident came a day after Iran and Israel said they had halted attacks on each other following an appeal from Trump. The ceasefire remains fragile, however, with Tehran warning that it would resume hostilities if Israel continued to strike Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Trump also suggested that he could present a new proposal for an agreement with Iran in the coming days. Washington is trying to end the more than three-month-old conflict while ensuring that Tehran does not develop nuclear weapons.

Tensions in the region remain high. Iran continues to restrict shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and has not ruled out renewed attacks on US interests. Israel and Iran have both signaled that they are ready to resume fighting if the security situation deteriorates again.
