USA: Recognition of Palestine only creates further problems

The United States has told other countries that recognizing a Palestinian state will only lead to further problems, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday.

“We have told all of these countries — really all of them — that this recognition is pure fiction, not even real. If you do that, you're just creating problems,” Rubio said in Quito, where he met with President Daniel Noboa and his Ecuadorian counterpart.

“There will be a reaction, it will be more difficult to achieve a ceasefire, and it could even trigger actions such as those we have seen – or at least attempts at such actions,” Rubio continued.

He did not comment in detail on the debate over a possible Israeli annexation of the West Bank, but emphasized that no final decision had yet been made.
