We are not affiliated with any ideology, political party, or organization, and our financial independence relies solely on revenue from subscriptions and advertising, as well as support from our owners. We stand not only for declared independence but for genuine independence and transparency.

Since June 2024, Štandard has followed the principle of the Concordat, modeled on the concordant system of Swiss politics. According to this principle, the publisher and editor-in-chief must reach a joint position in editorial guidelines and represent it internally and externally—even if it contradicts their personal opinion. This principle is intended to ensure stable editorial direction.

Štandard changed the registered office of its parent company to Mierové námestie 4 in Trenčín. Editorial offices remain in Bratislava at Pribinova 25.

Martin Saidler Jr. became CEO of Statement Media Central Europe, a.s., replacing shareholder Peter Núñez. Peter Peťovský became managing director.

Štandard has always been an independent medium. It is not dependent on state organizations or those funded directly or indirectly by the state. The declaration of independence was also published on the website under “Our Principles.” Editors and staff commit not to be members or employees of any political party, movement, or organization. If they wish to engage politically, they must end their collaboration with Štandard.

On March 19, Štandard became a member of the Association of Printed and Digital Media. By joining, Štandard committed to the journalists’ code of honor.

December 2023

At the beginning of December, Vydavateľstvo Štandard, a.s., under which Denník Štandard operates, changed its name to Statement Media Central Europe, a.s.

November 2023

Statement Media AG became the majority shareholder with 74%. Peter Núñez holds 25% and Peter Peťovský 1%. The change was planned and implemented by mutual agreement.

Štandard reached 1 million readers for the first time in the IAB Monitor, ranking 21st in audience reach. Daily and weekly reach also increased. The milestone was confirmed by Google Analytics.

Denník Štandard expanded its daily news offering with short updates under the name Minúta.

At the beginning of September, Štandard opened two additional regional editorial offices: Bratislavský and Banskobystrický Štandard. The medium now covers six regions.

Minority shareholder Saidler & Co. transferred its entire stake to the subsidiary Statement Media AG.

July 2023

Štandard expanded eastward and launched the regional portals Prešovský and Košický Štandard.

May 2023

Žilinský Štandard was established as the second regional edition after Trenčiansky Štandard.

February 2023

The news portal Terajšok in the Trenčín region joined Vydavateľstvo Štandard in September 2022 and was renamed Trenčiansky Štandard on February 15, 2023.

From this date, new subscribers pay a lower price. In return, they receive high-quality international content, including geopolitical and macroeconomic analyses and translations from renowned media (e.g., New York Times, Wall Street Journal.)

Štandard fundamentally changed its visual identity and subscription model. Subscribers now have access to Štandard PRO, which includes exclusive texts, analyses, and content from international media.

Saidler & Co. increased its stake from 20% to 40%, remaining a minority investor.

Six months after its founding, articles became exclusively available to subscribers—a risky but successful move.

January 2021

The Swiss investment company Saidler & Co. acquired 20% of Štandard shares. The joint-stock company Vydavateľstvo Štandard was also established.

November 2020

The online daily Štandard was founded. The sole owner was director and producer Peter Núñez, with Jaroslav Daniška as editor-in-chief. The editorial team consisted mainly of young writers, supplemented by renowned figures from science, culture, and politics.
