Bavaria's Minister President Söder wants to deport Ukrainians who are fit for military service

Surprising announcement from Munich: The Bavarian Minister-President no longer wants to provide for Ukrainian war refugees who are fit for military service in Bavaria, but instead send them back to their homeland.

“Peace is not currently in sight. It is therefore legitimate to consider sending Ukrainians who are fit for military service back to their homeland to ensure security in their own country,” Markus Söder (CSU) told the Rheinische Post.

The Minister President also addressed the issue of social benefits and called for a different approach to citizen's income: “This means that, compared to other European countries, we have a significantly lower proportion of Ukrainians in work. This needs to be changed urgently.”

Whether the repatriation of Ukrainians who are fit for military service will actually be feasible in reality – by force? – is highly questionable. However, the basic plan for these tens of thousands of deportations could also be well received by many citizens in Austria who no longer want to support young Ukrainian men while at the same time having to transfer billions to Kiev for the war.
