Trump calls Google fine unfair and considers retaliatory measures

Donald Trump criticized the European Commission's decision to fine Google €2.95 billion for abusing its dominant position in the field of advertising technologies.

On the social network Truth Social, he called the penalty “unfair” and “discriminatory” and said that American taxpayers would not simply accept it and that he would take action to invalidate it under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974.

Trump suggested that if the fine is upheld, the US could take retaliatory measures in the form of tariffs against the European Union.

At the same time, he said he would discuss this with EU representatives. Section 301 allows the US government to conduct investigations and take retaliatory measures against foreign countries whose practices the US considers inappropriate or harmful to American trade.

The European Commission accuses Google of favoring its own advertising platforms since 2014 to the detriment of competitors and online publishers.

Google has rejected the decision and plans to appeal it, as it considers it unfair.
