Nigerian militants from Boko Haram have killed again

The militant group Boko Haram killed several dozen people, including seven soldiers, in a nighttime attack on the community of Darul Jamal in Borno State in northeastern Nigeria.

The village, to which people had only returned last month after years of displacement, was occupied by armed attackers who raided houses, shot at residents, and set fires.

According to witnesses, the militants went from house to house, killing mainly men while leaving women alive. The official village chief said that 70 bodies of locals were found the morning after the attack, with the number of missing residents unclear. The exact death toll is not yet known.

Locals accuse the army of failing to respond to warnings about a gathering of armed men before the attack. The governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has already visited the scene.

In addition to the deaths, the attackers damaged dozens of homes and destroyed ten buses. Among those killed were people from the towns of Bama and Maiduguri who were helping to rebuild the village.
