TikTok challenge nearly cost a teenager his life. He suffered brain damage and bit his tongue

In the UK, teenager Lucas Howson fell victim to a dangerous viral trend and suffered serious injuries during the so-called “choking challenge,” writes the New York Post.

During the game, in which the participant is held in a stranglehold until he loses consciousness, he passed out for about 20 seconds. He bit his tongue when he fell and also suffered brain damage due to lack of oxygen.

Lucas' mother received a call from her niece, who had found her nephew lifeless in the park. He had been there with friends. At the hospital, he was diagnosed with a temporary brain injury that will have no lasting effects.

The boy had taken part in a challenge that is particularly popular on TikTok and has already raised concerns among experts on several occasions due to its risks.

Amy Howson, the teenager's mother, is now publicly warning against similar trends and appealing to parents and children to be aware of their dangers. “I told my son that this could have been fatal. I want other children to know that they are not invincible,” she emphasized.

Lucas has now fully recovered from his injuries, but the case has reignited a discussion about the responsibility of social networks for spreading dangerous challenges and the need for better education of young people.
