The inheritance dispute is over. Ferrari boss must perform community service
John Elkann, CEO of Stellantis and Ferrari, has reached an agreement in the tax dispute over his grandmother's inheritance.
The grandson of Giani Agnelli, founder of car manufacturer Fiat, will pay €183 million to the Italian tax authorities together with his siblings Lapo and Ginevra, bringing an end to investigations into alleged tax evasion in connection with assets worth around €800 million.
Elkann has also committed to one year of community service. The entrepreneur must choose an institution where he will perform this work, such as a senior center or an organization that helps people with addictions.
This means that the criminal proceedings against him have been dropped. The public prosecutor's office emphasized that an agreement on guilt and punishment in Italy does not constitute an admission of guilt. The judge must now officially confirm the agreement.
The case is part of a larger family conflict over the inheritance of legendary Fiat boss Gianni Agnelli.
His daughter Margherita, who inherited €1.2 billion, is trying to overturn the 2004 agreements so that her five children from her second marriage will also receive money. The dispute will therefore continue at the civil law level.
