Musk's network X fined for failing to delete intimate photo of woman

The social network X, owned by Elon Musk, was fined the maximum penalty of 100,000 Canadian dollars in Canada for failing to remove an intimate photo of a woman that had been published without her consent.

Although a court in British Columbia ordered the complete removal of the image, the platform merely hid it from Canadian users.

Judge Eric Regehr emphasized that this was a clear violation of the court order and that X had not even done the minimum. He also urged the victim to apply for daily penalty payments until the company responds.
This is the first case of its kind in which an online service provider has been punished for violating the law protecting intimate images.

X argued that Canadian law did not apply outside the province, but the court rejected this position.
It is noteworthy that the woman was not awarded compensation due to formal errors in the submissions caused by artificial intelligence.

The British Columbia Ministry of Justice expects X to pay the penalty.
