Zelensky: Drone attacks on Poland show new level of escalation
During a nighttime Russian attack on Ukraine, Poland shot down drones over its own airspace for the first time during the war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at least eight Iranian “Shahed” drones, which Russia regularly uses, were flying toward Poland.
This was no coincidence, but an escalation, as the drones were operating in NATO airspace.
Russia fired a total of 415 drones and more than 40 missiles at Ukraine. Ukrainian air defenses were able to intercept most of them, but 17 locations were still hit.
One person was killed and three others were injured.
In the Volhynia region, an industrial complex covering an area of around 1,000 square meters burned down.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha called on neighboring countries to play a more active role in defending against threats in Ukrainian airspace.
In his view, this would strengthen the collective security of the region.
