Hamas declares that the attack in Doha does not change its demands for a ceasefire
According to the movement, an Israeli attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar does not change its conditions for ending the war in Gaza. The strike in Doha, which the US described as a unilateral escalation that serves neither American nor Israeli interests, hit the negotiating delegation during talks on a new ceasefire proposal by the Qatari prime minister.
A Hamas spokesman said five members of the movement were killed in the attack, including the son of exiled Gaza leader and chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya. Nevertheless, Hamas insists on its key demands: a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the exchange of prisoners for hostages, humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on the other hand, is pursuing the opposite approach – the immediate release of all hostages and the surrender of Hamas.
The attack on the Qatari capital was condemned by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the European Union. The incident jeopardizes the US-brokered negotiations for a ceasefire and an end to the nearly two-year conflict.
