Lithuania is prepared to close its border with Belarus if it deems it necessary

Lithuanian Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovič warned that the country was prepared to immediately close its border with Belarus in the event of provocation.

He was responding to an incident on September 10, when Russia sent 19 drones into Polish airspace. Poland shot them down and, together with Lithuania, strongly condemned Belarus for allowing the Russian overflight.

Kondratovič stated that although the border is currently open, border officials are authorized to close it immediately. This would be followed by an analysis of the situation and a decision by the government on the duration of the closure. For the time being, Lithuania wants to allow EU citizens staying in Belarus to return.

Poland, meanwhile, has already decided on a complete temporary closure of its borders in connection with the Zapad 2025 military maneuvers, joint exercises between Minsk and Moscow. The decision to close the border was made even before the incursion of Russian drones.
