Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in Auckland in support of Palestine
Thousands of people filled the streets of Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday during a pro-Palestinian demonstration that organizers said was one of the largest in the country's history.
The event, titled “March for Humanity,” attracted 50,000 participants, according to organizers, while police gave a lower estimate of about 20,000.
The demonstrators carried Palestinian flags, demanded justice, and called on the government to impose tough diplomatic and economic sanctions on Israel.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon had previously criticized Israel's actions in Gaza and raised the possibility of recognizing the Palestinian state, similar to some other Western countries.
The conflict in Gaza continues with tragic consequences – according to the UN, more than 64,000 Palestinians have already been killed, and the majority of the population in the area is suffering from hunger.
