More Americans are applying for British citizenship
Since US President Donald Trump returned to the White House, the United Kingdom has seen a significant increase in applications for citizenship from US citizens – between April and June 2025, 2,194 applications were submitted, a 50 percent increase year-on-year.
Since the beginning of the year, the British Home Office has registered 4,125 applications, 40 percent more than in the previous year, reports the Politico portal.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan attributes this to London's appeal as a multicultural and liberal center.
In his opinion, the capital is a magnet for people who share similar values – from the academic world to the creative industries.
Khan sharply criticized Trump, with whom he has long had a tense relationship, and suggested that London's liberal character is precisely what attracts many Americans.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer sided with Khan, describing him as his friend.
