France: Strike reduces electricity production by 1.1 gigawatts

French energy company EDF reported a decline in nuclear power production of around 1.1 gigawatts as a result of a strike by employees.

The strike, which is directed against pensions and wages and also affects other sectors, led to reduced output at several reactor units, including those in Flamanville and Dampierre. In contrast, there were no significant disruptions in the gas sector.

Despite the restrictions, France's total nuclear energy output remains at around 57 gigawatts – enough to cover around 70 percent of annual electricity generation.

According to grid operator RTE, France remains a net exporter of electricity. Around 3.7 percent of EDF's workforce took part in the strike.
