Israel closes only border crossing with Jordan after attack

Israel closed the only border crossing between the West Bank and Jordan on Friday after a driver delivering humanitarian aid from Jordan to the Gaza Strip opened fire and killed two Israeli soldiers.

The Israel Airports Authority, which operates the Allenby Bridge corridor, announced its closure until further notice.

Two other border crossings between Israel and Jordan were also closed, while the southern Rabin crossing reportedly remained open only to humanitarian workers.

The Allenby Bridge is a key hub for trade between Jordan and Israel.

At the same time, it is the only crossing point that allows more than three million Palestinians from the West Bank to access Jordan and the wider world.
