Paracetamol is safe during pregnancy, confirmed the World Health Organization

On Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that paracetamol is safe to take during pregnancy. It emphasized that no studies to date have found a consistent link between taking this over-the-counter medication and an increased risk of autism in children.

The discussion was triggered by comments made by US President Donald Trump on Monday. He questioned the safety of paracetamol and vaccinations and linked both to autism. However, these claims are not scientifically proven.

The European Medicines Agency had already confirmed on Tuesday that medications containing paracetamol are considered safe during pregnancy.

The Slovak State Institute for Drug Control also shares this view.
