Spanish bishops reject therapy for homosexuals and are praised by LGBT group
Spanish Cardinal José Cobo and Bishop José Antonio Satué have publicly spoken out against conversion therapy and have been praised for this by the LGBT organization CRISMHOM. Their stance was presented during an LGBT conference of Catholics in Madrid, reports the portal Katholisch.de.
Cobo speaks of the need for inclusion and pastoral care for LGBT believers, while Satué, who was appointed to Málaga by Pope Leo XIV in June, also emphasizes a pastoral approach that avoids confrontation and is characterized by inclusivity.
The World Health Organization describes conversion therapies as ineffective and dangerous, but at the same time supports hormonal or surgical transitions, even in minors.
In their opinion, the desire to change sexual orientation is unacceptable, while a change in gender identity is supposedly okay.
