British king played key role in Trump's change of course on Ukraine
According to information from Kiev, Britain's King Charles III played a decisive role in changing US President Donald Trump's stance on the war in Ukraine, reports the Telegraph newspaper.
According to one of the most powerful men in the Ukrainian government, the head of the presidential office Andriy Yermak, private conversations during the recent state visit were “very important,” as he explained in an interview with the British newspaper.
Trump said this week that Ukraine was capable of recapturing all of its territory—a clear break from his previous statements that Kiev should cede part of the country to Russia. Diplomatic sources emphasize that talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other British officials also contributed to this change of course.
The monarch received the Trumps at Windsor Castle and highlighted their shared historical experience in fighting tyranny in his speech. At the same time, Zelensky asked Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to supply Tomahawk missiles, which he believes could force Vladimir Putin to negotiate peace.
Yermak added that Washington had responded “openly and positively” to Ukraine's requests for key weapons for the first time. He described this as significant progress.
