EU leaders discussed a drone defense wall following airspace violations
At the summit in Copenhagen, European heads of state and government addressed the increase in incidents involving Russian drones and discussed the creation of a so-called drone defense system—a network of sensors and defense systems designed to protect European airspace.
This was triggered by disturbances in Denmark, Poland, and Estonia, with suspicion falling on Moscow. Denmark has not yet commented on the origin of the attacks, but Prime Minister Frederiksen described the incidents as part of a hybrid war.
The proposal was supported by several heads of state and government, including Emmanuel Macron and Ursula von der Leyen, who said Russia was testing Europe's defense capabilities. At the same time, the possibility of using frozen Russian assets to finance aid to Ukraine was discussed.
The Kremlin called the proposal theft. According to NATO, the incidents have exposed serious weaknesses in European defense. Russia denies any involvement and warns against building more “walls.”
