Trump: The US wants peace in Gaza and fair trade relations with Canada

US President Donald Trump expressed optimism on Tuesday about a possible agreement on Gaza, stating that a US team had just left for negotiations.

In the Oval Office, he told reporters that “there is a chance that we could have peace in the Middle East—not just in Gaza.” Trump indicated that the United States is working intensively on a diplomatic solution to the conflict and is prepared to support a more comprehensive peace process in the region.

In addition to Gaza, the president also commented on trade relations with Canada. He said that while the US wants Canada to prosper, both countries are competitors “in the same business.”

He emphasized the need to strengthen automobile production in the US and reduce tariffs on selected Canadian sectors.

He also mentioned the issue of steel, on which he said Washington had reached a compromise. Finally, he pointed out that the federal government has the authority to act—including through the Insurrection Act—if local leaders are unable to do their jobs.
