The UK wants more investment in the pharmaceutical sector, says the finance minister

The UK is striving to maintain an attractive environment for pharmaceutical companies, but at the same time expects a greater inflow of foreign investment in this sector.

This was stated by Finance Minister Rachel Reeves during her visit to Washington, where she is attending a meeting of international financial representatives.

Reeves emphasized the need for a competitive environment, including for drug prices, and called on pharmaceutical companies to invest more in the UK market.

Her statements followed US President Donald Trump's demand that European countries pay more for American drugs. Some global pharmaceutical companies have halted new projects in the UK due to difficult business conditions.

Science Minister Patrick Vallance pointed out that the British National Health Service needs to reverse the decline in drug spending. At the same time, the government is negotiating with the US to reduce tariffs on pharmaceutical products after Trump announced that he would introduce 100 percent tariffs on companies without production capacities in the US.
