A bomb exploded outside the home of the well-known Italian investigative journalist

On Thursday evening, a bomb exploded outside the home of renowned Italian investigative journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, destroying two cars and damaging the surrounding area.

Although no one was injured, the incident sparked a wave of solidarity from journalists and politicians.

Ranucci, who hosts the well-known RAI program “Report,” has long been under police protection due to repeated threats, including the mailing of bullets.

According to initial findings, the explosive device was made from components of fireworks. The investigation has been taken over by prosecutors specializing in fighting the mafia, as there is suspicion that mafia practices are involved.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the act as an attack on press freedom, and the interior minister announced increased protection for the reporter.

The Report portal is known for its hard-hitting investigative reporting and is frequently subjected to legal attacks by members of the government. Ranucci does not yet know whether the explosion is directly related to his work, but emphasized that neither he nor his team would be intimidated.
