Fire at Hungarian oil refinery: Orbán announces thorough investigation

A fire broke out on Monday evening at the MOL oil refinery in Százhalombatta, Hungary, following an explosion. The plant's fire department was on site; according to official reports, no one was injured, Index reports.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but both MOL and the relevant authorities have already launched official and internal investigations. Mayor Mihály Vezér assured residents that the situation was under control and that there was no danger to the surrounding area.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with representatives of MOL and Interior Minister Sándor Pintér on Tuesday morning. On social media, he reassured the public that fuel supplies in Hungary were secure and promised a thorough investigation of the incident.

The refinery began operations in 1965 and is one of the most important oil processing facilities in the country.
