Chernihiv without power again – Russian drones hamper repairs to the power supply

A Russian bombing raid on Tuesday severely damaged the energy infrastructure in the northern Ukrainian region of Chernihiv. As a result, there was a complete power outage in the regional capital and in the northern part of the region. Hundreds of thousands of people are without electricity.

“Emergency services in the Chernihiv region are unable to begin repair work to restore power due to ongoing attacks by Russian drones,”
the Energy Ministry said. According to the ministry, drones are deliberately flying over the damaged infrastructure to hinder repairs and prolong the humanitarian crisis.

Before the war began, Chernihiv had a population of around 280,000. In recent weeks, the city has been repeatedly targeted by Russian missile and drone attacks, which are causing massive disruption to daily life and repeated power outages.

Acting Mayor Oleksandr Lomako accused Moscow of deliberately depriving the population of basic utilities, including heating, ahead of the approaching winter.
