The debate on migration in Germany has intensified following statements made by Chancellor Merz

According to Echo24, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's comments on the appearance of German cities, their character, and the need to deport illegal migrants have sparked a debate on migration and racism in Germany.

Merz refuses to retract his words and claims that he is only saying what people see every day. His remark that journalists should ask their daughters what they think about it also sparked reactions.

The organization Terre des Femmes accused him of exploiting the issue of violence against women to advance the migration agenda. Activist Neubauer called for a protest in front of the CDU headquarters under the slogan “We are daughters.”

Merz is defended by several representatives of the CDU/CSU, who claim that he is describing a real problem that is perceived by the public. In their opinion, illegal migration is changing the appearance of German cities.
