Trump underestimated the shutdown, the crisis continues, and millions of Americans remain without pay

The White House expected a brief shutdown of government agencies—according to several sources, President Donald Trump's officials assumed that the Democrats would quickly give in. According to the Politico website, the reality took even the head of the White House by surprise.

The shutdown is now in its second month, which is quite a long time. Trump is becoming increasingly frustrated, publicly calling for the obstruction to be lifted and accusing Democrats of playing political games. At the same time, however, he refuses to negotiate with Democrats until the government resumes its work.

The problems are becoming public—federal employees are not receiving salaries, the SNAP food assistance program is on the brink, and air traffic is affected by delays.

The White House accuses Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer, while Democrats accuse Trump of vindictiveness. Despite calls from both sides, negotiations have stalled, and Republicans refuse to change Senate rules.

Frustration is growing, and millions of Americans are being held hostage to a political conflict that has evolved from a seemingly brief hiatus into a deep crisis of confidence between Congress and the White House.
