Secret talks with Britain on Ukraine have collapsed, Peskov says

The Kremlin has confirmed talks between British security adviser Jonathan Powell and Yuri Ushakov from President Vladimir Putin's office. However, Moscow says efforts to establish a dialogue have failed.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the British side had shown no interest in hearing Russia's position on the conflict in Ukraine.

Powell reportedly tried to open a secret channel of communication because London and its European allies fear that U.S. President Donald Trump may ignore their positions on Ukraine.

Peskov suggested the contacts ended after the conversation unilaterally focused only on European views. Moscow sees this approach as the reason why the dialogue failed to develop further.
