Rubio admitted that Russia destroys defense equipment for Ukraine within a week
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned that Ukraine is facing an increasingly serious collapse of its energy infrastructure, which is being systematically undermined by Russian attacks.
Answering reporters' questions , he noted that Ukraine's grid is shrinking every year and Kiev currently only has electricity for about half of the day. It also has water for only a few hours.
"That's why we had discussions with them about defensive weapons so that we could protect their grid. And I know we've had technical discussions about the specific equipment they need. But ultimately, if that equipment is destroyed a week after it's installed, it remains a problem. And that's been the history of the last two or three years," he elaborated.
The minister sees the attacks by Russia as an attempt to break the morale of the population and undermine the will to defend themselves. Asked whether Russia wants peace, he replied that Moscow is openly demanding control of the rest of Donetsk, which is unacceptable for Ukraine.
In Donetsk, Russia is making some gains, but paying a heavy price, according to Rubio. It is reportedly losing seven thousand troops a week.
