Russia remains open to summit with US in Budapest, says Zakharova

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday confirmed its openness to the idea of a summit with the US in Budapest. According to the ministry, the condition is thorough preparation and taking into account the agreements from the last meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova specified that diplomatic contacts between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio are continuing.

The two countries agreed at a summit in Budapest last month. Shortly afterwards, however, Trump cancelled it on the grounds that he did not want to have a meeting without concrete benefits. Moscow says it is of primary interest to maintain dialogue between the two countries.
