EU membership will be an advantage for both the Union and Montenegro, PM Spajic says
The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić, has declared that his country will become a full member of the European Union by the end of the current European Commission's term in 2029. In an interview with Euronews in Brussels , he said that Montenegro is already functioning as a member of the European Community, although it is not yet reaping its benefits.
Spajic confirmed that the government plans to close all accession chapters by the end of next year. The European Commission praised Montenegro's progress, particularly in the areas of the Western Balkans growth plan and the implementation of constitutional, judicial and economic reforms.
The enlargement process is conditional on the completion of reforms in the judiciary and the appointment of judges to the Constitutional Court.
The Prime Minister stressed that EU membership is the only alternative for Montenegro and its aim is to contribute to the wealth of the Union. Since October, the country has been part of SEPA, the Common European Payments Area, and free roaming between the EU and Montenegro is to be introduced from 2026.
