The EU is preparing new trade agreements and is negotiating with the US on steel, Šefčovič announced

Brussels considers steel a priority. European Union trade policy chief Maroš Šefčovič made the announcement on Monday after a meeting with European Union trade ministers and US officials. Overcapacity problems in the steel industry were also a key topic of these talks.

Šefčovič announced that an EU delegation would go to Washington to discuss the future of the steel industry.

At the same time, the Slovak Commissioner said that Brussels was trying to diversify its trade relations. The aim is to conclude free trade agreements with the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia by 2027.

According to Šefčovič, these countries are strategically important for the European Union as an alternative to traditional trading partners and represent significant potential for European businesses.
