Ukraine's anti-corruption agency expects new charges in energy scandal

The head of Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau, Semen Kryvonos, announced on Tuesday that new charges may be added in the case of a $100 million bribery scheme at the state nuclear agency Energoatom. Investigators are analyzing thousands of hours of wiretaps and mapping illegal financial flows, he said.

The case has sparked massive outrage in Ukraine. Two ministers resigned after the release of recordings detailing the planned machinations, and President Volodymyr Zelensky has already moved to replace leadership in the energy sector.

Critics, however, are calling for tougher action and are also calling for the dismissal of the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, who is not under suspicion but is seen as a key player behind the scenes of the government.

Adding to the public outrage is the fact that the corruption involved the energy sector, which is under constant Russian attack.
