Two European countries bought expensive underwater drones for military purposes

German technology firm Euroatlas has announced that it has entered into two contracts with European countries for the sale of Greyshark autonomous underwater drones for over €100 million. The company did not disclose the names of the countries, only stating that they are countries that work closely together.

The drones will be used for special military purposes but will not be armed. Greyshark has a 5.5-day underwater endurance, the ability to work in groups, and Euroatlas is also planning a more advanced model with an endurance of up to 16 weeks. Other countries in Europe and Asia have also expressed interest.

Underwater drones have come under the spotlight recently for their deployment in the war in Ukraine. Ukraine's SBU recently unveiled an improved version of the Sea Baby drone with a range of 1,500 km and a payload capacity of two thousand kilograms.

NATO is also using maritime drones to protect critical infrastructure, and Australia plans to invest more than a billion dollars in the Ghost Shark system developed in cooperation with the US.
