An avalanche fell on the Stubai Glacier. Rescuers are searching for the missing

An avalanche fell on the Stubai glacier in Tyrol, affecting part of the ski slope. Rescuers have so far managed to rescue nine people from the snow - six were found in the morning near the slope, three others were later hospitalized.

However, it is possible that more skiers were left under the masses of snow, reports Der Nordschleswiger.

Initial findings show that the avalanche was probably triggered by skiers who were off the marked trails. Mountain rescue teams, avalanche dogs and several helicopters were involved in the search.

Rescue work is still ongoing. Local authorities are also warning of the dangers of moving in unprotected terrain.
